Year 11 Geographers Complete Fieldwork at the Cranedale Centre

This week, our Year 11 Geography pupils spent three days at the Cranedale Centre on the Yorkshire Wolds, taking part in a series of fieldwork activities that form a key part of their GCSE course.
As part of their studies, pupils visited Bridlington to explore the regenerated seafront and investigate the town’s coastal defences. They also carried out a downhill river survey in Dalby Forest, collecting data from the tributaries of the River Derwent.
On the final day, pupils used their data to create a series of digital maps using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) — an important skill assessed in their final examinations.
Alongside their academic work, the group also enjoyed a range of team-building activities, including a low ropes course, the big swing and team construction challenges, all designed to build confidence and collaboration. Mr Davey certainly showed the pupils he’s got great balance on the ropes course!
It was a fantastic few days of hands-on learning, teamwork and adventure — a true highlight of the GCSE Geography experience.
