Year 8 Become Crime Scene Investigators!
9 December 2025

Our Year 8 pupils turned detective this week as they took part in a special CSI-style Forensic Science event, exploring the vital role science plays in the criminal justice system.

Faced with a scenario involving a break-in at Westbourne School, pupils became Scene of Crime Officers, donning white coveralls, masks, gloves and overshoes as they carefully searched for and collected evidence.
They then stepped into the role of forensic scientists, analysing shoe marks, comparing documents, carrying out ink chromatography, and examining blood patterns to build their case.
The experience concluded in a mock courtroom, where pupils took on roles including barrister, judge, forensic witness, police officer and the accused — ending with a unanimous guilty verdict!
Head of Science and Natural History, Dr Twitty said:
“This hands-on experience not only provided Year 8 with valuable insights into forensic science but also developed their teamwork and critical thinking. It was a memorable and highly engaging day for our pupils.”
