Forest School

Exploring, Learning, and Growing with Forest School

Westbourne Forest School 11

At Westbourne School, our Forest School initiative offers pupils meaningful opportunities to connect with nature, develop resilience, and build confidence through hands-on outdoor learning. As Sir David Attenborough wisely noted...

"No one will protect what they don’t care about, and no one will care about what they have never experienced."

Our Forest School sessions - from bush craft and survival skills to leadership and teamwork inspire curiosity, independence, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.

We are proud to offer a diverse Forest School programme across the school:

  • Reception to Year 2 enjoy dedicated weekly Forest School sessions, giving them a strong foundation in outdoor exploration from an early age.
  • Junior School (Years 3–6) pupils can take part in our after-school Forest School club in partnership with Wilderness West, held on Thursday evenings. These sessions provide enriching, nature-based experiences in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Whole-School Forest School Leaders Club (Years 3–11) runs once a week after school, offering pupils the chance to deepen their outdoor skills and learn how to support others in their learning. This unique initiative fosters leadership, collaboration, and a strong sense of community.

Forest School is also embedded in our bespoke Outdoor Learning Curriculum, where pupils across all ages benefit from Forest School principles that enhance personal growth and wellbeing.

At Westbourne, Forest School is more than just an activity - it’s a vital part of our educational journey, helping pupils to thrive in and beyond the classroom.
