Enrichment

At Westbourne School, we are committed to providing a vibrant and dynamic educational experience that goes beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Our Enrichment and Clubs offers a wide variety of opportunities for pupils to explore new interests, develop skills, and have fun! We are proud to offer activities that span sports, drama, arts, music, and more, ensuring every pupil can find something that sparks their passion.

Our enrichment activities are designed to engage pupils in a broad range of interests, allowing them to explore and excel in areas beyond the academic curriculum. From creative arts to physical activities, each opportunity fosters curiosity, builds skills, and helps pupils develop a well-rounded character.

At Westbourne, we hold a number of special events throughout the year that unite our school community, inspire curiosity, and spark creative thinking.

  • International Women and Girls in Science Day: Celebrating the achievements of women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Humanities Day: A fun, interactive exploration of history, geography, and the humanities through various activities.
  • Grandparents Day: A special occasion to invite grandparents into school, allowing them to share in the learning experiences and celebrations of the pupils.
  • Remembrance Service: Every pupil takes part in the service, with Senior School pupils delivering readings.
  • TTRockStars Day: A mathematics-focused day filled with engaging challenges to help pupils develop their times tables skills.

These events provide pupils with unique opportunities to engage in themed learning, celebrate different aspects of culture, and foster connections with others.

Our weekly assemblies further support this sense of community, offering a space for reflection, celebration of achievements, and active pupil participation.

In line with our commitment to community, we host a series of intergenerational events that bring together multiple generations within our school. These events are designed to foster understanding, collaboration, and respect between pupils and members of the local community.

Some of these cherished events include:

  • Intergenerational Tea Dance: A joyful occasion where pupils and members of the community dance, socialise, and learn from one another.
  • Wreath-Making for Remembrance Day: A heartfelt event where pupils and community members come together to create wreaths that are displayed during our Remembrance Service.
  • Outdoor Meditation: A peaceful gathering that brings pupils and local seniors together to share in mindfulness and meditation, promoting relaxation and mental well-being.

These intergenerational events are a unique feature of Westbourne, offering pupils valuable opportunities to connect with the wider community, build relationships, and learn from those with different life experiences.

At Westbourne, we believe in empowering our pupils. Through roles such as School Council, House Captains & Vice Captains, Forest School leaders, and Reading Buddies, pupils are encouraged to develop leadership skills, make meaningful contributions to school life, and positively impact their peers. These positions help pupils build confidence and responsibility while actively shaping the environment around them.

Our residential programme, available to pupils from Year 2 upwards, offers an invaluable experience for personal growth. These trips are designed to promote teamwork, independence, and responsibility, encouraging pupils to step outside their comfort zones and develop valuable life skills. They provide opportunities for pupils to bond, grow in confidence, and create lasting memories.

At Westbourne, we are committed to offering an education that supports the intellectual, creative, emotional, and social growth of each pupil. With a wide variety of enrichment activities and special events along with a strong focus on community we ensure that every pupil has the chance to thrive, grow, and enjoy their childhood.

Our commitment to enrichment is reflected in the words of our pupils and families:

“I got to sing in the Spring Recital to my friends, parents, and carers. I love the opportunities we get at Westbourne.”

“Westbourne School provides a friendly and caring environment. The teachers are passionate to see their pupils succeed. They are great about sharing moments of pride they see within your child. Westbourne has been home for our family for the last seven years, and our son has enjoyed every minute. We are very grateful for the hard work and dedication of the staff.”
