General Information for GCSE Exams and JCQ Documents

Exam Contingency Days Summer 2025:

The awarding bodies have collectively agreed a contingency day for several years now which is always scheduled at the end of the GCSE, GCE AS and A-level exam timetables.

The contingency day is in the event of national or significant local disruption to exams in the United Kingdom, being part of the awarding bodies’ standard contingency planning for exams.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, further resilience was needed within the exam timetables. A single contingency day was not felt to be sufficient if a national event or incident had a significant effect on the exam timetable.

For the June 2025 exams the contingency sessions will be:

Wednesday 11th June – Half day session in the afternoon

Wednesday 25th June – Full day session

Pupils should remain available until Wednesday 25th June 2025 should examinations need to be rescheduled.

While Westbourne celebrates another year of excellent GCSE results, one story is truly extraordinary. Year 6 pupil Harry Clark has achieved a Grade 9 and Grade 8 in GCSE Further Mathematics – results equivalent to A*. Harry has shown remarkable ability from a very young age. By the age of five he had already mastered trigonometry, and at just nine years old he sat his Foundation GCSE Maths papers, dropping only five marks across the entire set of exams. Alongside his talent, Harry impressed everyone by fitting in seamlessly with our Year 11 pupils as a well-liked and hardworking member of the class. His Maths teacher, Mr Biggane, said: “Harry has not only achieved the extraordinary, but as a Year 6 pupil he fitted in seamlessly with the Year 11s. It’s a well-deserved achievement after all his hard work – we are so proud of him.” Headteacher Mr Edmanson added: “Harry’s achievement is truly inspirational. He is a shining example of what can be achieved with curiosity, perseverance and the right support. We are immensely proud of him and excited to see what he accomplishes next.” Harry remains a happy young boy who enjoys running and watching Formula 1 – and from September, he will begin studying the A Level Mathematics syllabus. Of all grades gained across the curriculum by all pupils, an impressive 45% were at level 7, 8 or 9 (A or A*), and 76% of all pupils gained at least one grade 7 (A). This achievement underscores the dedication of our pupils and the unwavering support provided by our committed teaching staff.
