Westbourne School is celebrating an exceptionally positive Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report following its full inspection in September 2025. Inspectors praised the school’s outstanding leadership, inclusive ethos and strong commitment to pupil wellbeing, noting that “senior leaders are uncompromising in their efforts to provide the very best education for every pupil.”
The report highlights the strength of Westbourne’s values-based approach, which runs through every aspect of school life. Inspectors commended the school for creating a “supportive environment that prioritises the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of all pupils, recognising that wellbeing underpins pupils’ future success.”
They also praised pupils’ exemplary conduct, noting that they “regulate their own behaviour and show high levels of consideration to each other and to adults, both in lessons and around the school.” The inspection confirmed that Westbourne meets all statutory Independent School Standards, including those relating to leadership, teaching, wellbeing, safeguarding and pupils’ personal development.
Headteacher Mr Aidan Edmanson said:
“I felt enormously proud reading this report. It captures who we are as a school – a community that relentlessly pursues excellence through kindness, inclusivity and respect. Our pupils, staff and parents all play a part in making Westbourne such a special place, and it is wonderful to see that recognised so clearly.
The inspectors highlighted the importance of wellbeing as the foundation for learning – something we firmly believe in. A happy child who feels a sense of true belonging will succeed.”
The report also celebrated Westbourne’s broad and engaging curriculum, which inspires curiosity and creativity from the earliest years through to the senior school. Pupils benefit from high-quality teaching, extensive enrichment opportunities and a strong sense of belonging.
Chair of Governors Mr Dorrien Peters added:
“On behalf of the Governing Body, I would like to thank every member of the Westbourne community for their contribution to this very positive ISI report. The inspectors rightly acknowledged the professionalism and care shown by our staff, the diligence of our support teams, and the impact of Mr Edmanson’s leadership. As Governors, we remain committed to supporting this fantastic school where every child is known, valued and inspired.”
In their summary, inspectors praised the collaboration between leaders, staff and governors, noting that they share a clear vision for continuous improvement and that staff morale is “high, with teachers embracing challenge and innovation.”
Mr Edmanson concluded:
“We will continue to build on this success, refining our use of assessment to ensure every pupil achieves their very best. We are, and will remain, uncompromising in our efforts to provide the highest quality education for every child, ensuring that no pupil is left behind.”
