Sport
Westbourne School fosters a love of sport, offering diverse activities for all pupils (Reception-Year 11). From Year 3, dedicated games sessions complement PE lessons, ensuring a breadth of sporting experiences.
In Reception to Year 2, pupils enjoy two dedicated PE lessons each week, taught by specialist PE staff. Moving into Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), the program expands to include two weekly PE lessons and a dedicated games afternoon offsite.
For students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), the curriculum maintains a strong focus on physical activity with two weekly PE lessons. These lessons are thoughtfully structured, combining one practical lesson with a dedicated theory lesson. Like their younger counterparts, Key Stage 3 pupils also enjoy a weekly games afternoon offsite.
Finally, in Years 10 and 11, pupils have the option to further their sporting journey by selecting GCSE PE, which involves three lessons per week. However, regardless of their academic choices, all Year 10 and 11 pupils participate in a weekly games afternoon offsite. This ensures continued physical activity and provides a refreshing break from the classroom while exploring the diverse sporting venues available to our school e.g. the EIS, Abbeydale Sports Club, Hallamshire tennis, Ponds Forge, Goodwin.
House events, held every half term, enrich our sports program. These inclusive events promote our school values:
Excellence, Resilience, Respect, and Inclusion.
Pupils compete for their House in a variety of activities, including the Westbourne Wheeze, hockey, netball, football, cricket, swimming, and Sports Days.
Previously, we have offered sports tours both abroad and within the UK to our pupils. These experiences are invaluable for the development of our pupils' physical, mental, and social well-being.
Pupils interested in developing their skills further can participate in optional extra-curricular activities, including netball, football, basketball and gymnastics.
An Education Like No Other
