Where you Belong

Individualised Learning & Pupil Progress

Junior School held the annual Westbourne Wheeze. All pupils in Years 3-6 took part proudly for their Houses, showing fantastic resilience, determination and team spirit. Our House Captains and Vice Captains were eager to lead their teams to victory, heading up the pre-race warm-up and delivering inspiring motivational speeches. At Westbourne, we value sport not only for the physical benefits it brings, but also for the essential life skills it develops. We encourage our pupils to step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves physically and mentally, and always give their best. These are invaluable qualities that help our pupils grow into resilient, confident individuals. Special commendations and awards for excellence will be given to celebrate some of the truly outstanding performances. A huge well done to everyone who took part! A huge well done to all our Year 10 pupils who took part in a formal speech-making afternoon this week as part of their GCSE English Spoken Language assessment. The English Department was hugely impressed by how well-prepared our pupils were, with many delivering their speeches confidently and with minimal notes! We were treated to a fascinating range of topics, including: 🎤 Should celebrities have the right to a private life? 🏎️ Is there gender equality in F1? 👑 Are Disney princesses damaging? 🎸 Are The Beatles the best band ever? Congratulations to our Year 10 pupils for rising to the challenge. Outdoor learning at Westbourne has been in full swing this term! Our pupils have been taking their learning beyond the classroom, exploring, investigating and putting their knowledge into practice across some of our fantastic local outdoor spaces. In the Botanical Gardens, pupils created colour wheels by matching colours found in nature. In the Dell, they learnt about mountains by creating Mount Magenty and explored rivers by designing their very own River Rees-Oxley. They then took their new-found knowledge to Wyming Brook Nature Reserve, where they identified and discussed different river features in the landscape. Outdoor maths has also been on the agenda, with pupils exploring place value and Roman numerals in the Dell, while scavenger hunts encouraged careful observation and helped develop their scientific enquiry skills.
