Uniform
School Uniform
At Westbourne School, wearing uniform is an important part of fostering a sense of belonging. We expect all our pupils to arrive at school looking smart and ready for the day’s activities.
Junior School pupils have both a summer and winter uniform.
From Reception to Year 2, pupils wear a Westbourne cardigan or jumper. As they move into Year 3 to Year 6, the uniform transitions to a green blazer with a distinctive purple trim.
Senior School pupils wear one smart, year-round uniform.
On days when pupils have Outdoor Learning or PE/Games, they should arrive at school dressed in their Westbourne School PE kit.
Senior School prefects have the option to purchase and wear a Prefects’ Tie.

What should pupils wear on swimming days?
- Pupils should wear normal uniform on swimming days. This is one of the few opportunities during the week when the children are required to develop their skills of changing independently.
- If pupils are in full uniform and wear a tie, Year 3 and 4 pupils do not need to put their tie back on after swimming if they are still learning to do this.
- If your child needs additional support with changing, please reach out to your teacher so they are aware.
What should pupils wear on PE or games days?
- Pupils should come to school in PE kit so they do not lose any learning time changing.
- The exception to this is Reception class who come to school in PE kit and change afterwards into their uniform. This is to support their early development and ability to change independently.
What should pupils wear on Outdoor Learning days?
- Pupils should wear PE kit for Outdoor Learning as this is more flexible and practical then the normal school uniform.
- Pupils should bring waterproofs (top and bottom) to put on over their PE kit.
- Pupils should bring a change of shoes for outdoor learning which can get muddy.
Where do pupils put on their outdoor learning waterproofs?
- Pupils will put these on and off in the Dell, over the top of their PE kit.
- No ‘changing’ takes place in the Dell.
- There is no need for blazers to be taken to the Dell as they are not needed in school on those days.
- Footwear will also be changed in the Dell to avoid mud in school.
Can pupils have clip-on ties?
-
We are in the process of working with Stevensons to add clip-on ties to their offering. We are expecting samples of these to come to us later this term, with the hope they can be added to the offering later in the year.
Can pupils change before games lessons and add base layers?
-
Unfortunately, timetable restraints do not allow this to happen. However pupils who are too warm are welcome to wear a short sleeve PE top over their base layer. If a pupil is specifically struggling with this and temperature, please let their form tutor know and they can make specific arrangements.
What should pupils in full uniform look like?
-
We are working with the marketing team to create visuals to support parents in ensuring uniform expectations are clear for all. This will include photo examples of pupils in both full uniform and PE kit.
