Westbourne’s Mrs Woodger Wins European Silver with Team GB

Westbourne’s Mrs Woodger Wins European Silver with Team GB
24 November 2025
Westbourne School is incredibly proud to celebrate the achievement of Mrs Woodger, our PE and Games Teacher, who represented Great Britain at the European Masters Athletics Championships in Funchal, Madeira, on 16 October 2025.

Competing in the 10km road race, Mrs Woodger joined an exceptionally strong field of athletes from across Europe an experience she described as

“both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, standing amongst such an accomplished group.”

The race itself was far from straightforward. Scheduled for 8pm, runners faced darkness, heat, humidity, and the infamous Madeiran hills. As Mrs Woodger put it,

“The Madeiran hills made Sheffield hills look like speed bumps!”

Despite the challenging conditions, she ran brilliantly, helping the Great Britain team secure a Silver medal in their age category — a remarkable achievement on the international stage.

Standing on the podium, surrounded by athletes from across Europe, was a moment she’ll never forget. National anthems filled the air, medals were presented, and, as she shared, there was “a real sense of pride.”

With her sights now set on the next European Championships, Mrs Woodger is already looking ahead to racing internationally once again — and inspiring our pupils every step of the way.

Congratulations, Mrs Woodger — a true example of resilience, determination, and excellence.
