Generations worked together as pupils at Westbourne School welcomed some special visitors into the classroom for an intergenerational Remembrance Day wreath-making event.

Pupils collaborated with members of the local Well With Nature Group, part of Age UK, to create beautiful wreaths for Westbourne's annual Remembrance Day ceremony. The activity also offered a valuable opportunity for pupils to hear first-hand stories, memories and reflections from people whose families had served in both the First and Second World Wars.

“The children showed exemplary behaviour, they were courteous, kind and engaged in some wonderful conversations with the ladies who came to teach them. Having spoken with our visitors afterwards, they all said how much they enjoyed the event – interacting with our pupils, sharing their skills and having some company while creating something meaningful together.”

Mrs Usher, who organised the event

The event provided a memorable way for pupils to connect with older generations, learn about the significance of Remembrance Day, and honour those who have served and sacrificed for their country.
