Westbourne Remembers
This morning, our Westbourne School community gathered for a moving Remembrance Day service to honour those who gave their lives in conflict.

The ceremony began with a welcome and words of reflection from Headteacher, Mr Edmanson. Our Head Pupils Daniella, Angel, Sofia, and Jack gave a poignant reading of ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae, setting a tone of respect and remembrance.
Pupils from Years 3 to 6, led by Mrs Stroud, performed the song ‘This Remembrance Day’, their voices carrying a message of gratitude and hope. The service continued with a reading of ‘A Letter from the Front: In the Trenches’ by Mrs Foster-Major, bringing to life the human stories behind the history.

Following the Last Post, the school observed two minutes of silence, a moment of deep reflection shared by pupils, staff, and visitors alike. The service concluded with the Reveille, Dedication, and final prayers, led by Mr Edmanson and Ms Ogden.
As a symbol of remembrance and continuity, pupils from Year 11 joined Reception and Year 1 to lay a wreath and poppies. This simple act connected the youngest and oldest members of our community, reminding us that remembrance belongs to all generations.
Headteacher Mr Edmanson reflected,
“Today we honour the courage and sacrifice of those who came before us. It is our duty — and privilege — to ensure their legacy is never forgotten.”
At Westbourne, we remember our fallen Old Westbournians, and all who have lived and died in the service of others.
“At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.”
