A Remarkable First Year at Westbourne School

A Remarkable First Year at Westbourne School

By Mr Edmanson, Headteacher, Westbourne School

As I reflect on my first year as Headteacher at Westbourne School, I’m filled with admiration for the incredible young people who make this such a special place. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the warmth of the community, the energy in the classrooms, and the unwavering commitment to nurturing every child as an individual.

This year has been packed with unforgettable experiences from our wide-ranging trips, including a school exchange in Sardinia, trekking in Morocco, our French trip to the Opal Coast, and skiing in Passo Tonale, to a thought-provoking engineering visit to the Bakkavor factory. One of the highlights was WestFest, our very own music festival, which brought the whole school community together in celebration and song.

Let alone the sporting achievements with accolades across a multitude of disciplines, including county athletics, netball, and hockey our pupils continually impress on and off the field. We were also proud to showcase our creative talents in the sculpture exhibition held at the Botanical Gardens. Our children at Westbourne are very lucky to have such a committed and dedicated staff team supporting their development and offering them such a plethora of opportunities.

I’m also proud of our strong community links, from regular food bank donations to our music outreach partnership with Age UK.

What stands out most is the confidence of our pupils. Whether performing on stage, exploring new environments, or embracing academic challenges, they give it their all. Westbourne pupils are curious, kind, and courageous and their education here clearly shapes not just knowledge, but character.
