Geography
At Westbourne, our Geography Department empowers pupils to explore the world around them – from local landscapes to global challenges – nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong sense of place and purpose.
At Westbourne School, at Key Stage 3, pupils experience a range of geographical topics. In Year 7, pupils are introduced to the subject and learn how to use a range of maps. Work also covers Weather and Climate, Rivers, and Coasts. In Year 8, we look at Hazards such as Volcanoes and Earthquakes, as well as Economic Activities, Ecosystems, and Africa. In Year 9, we look at Extreme Weather, Development, Glacial Environments, and Antarctica.
At GCSE, we follow the AQA Specification with units of work on Hazards, The Living World, Physical Landscapes (Coasts and Rivers), Urban Environments, the Changing Economic World, and Resource Management. The fieldwork component involves a trip to Bridlington and the North Yorkshire Moors.
