  • Contemporary script work
  • Slapstick comedy
  • Devising
Years 9

Year 9 introduces pupils to the foundations of the AQA Drama curriculum. For Component 2 – Devising Drama, pupils learn how to create a performance from a variety of stimuli, embedding theatrical skills within their work. For Component 3 – Texts in Practice, pupils study a play text and are assessed on their characterisation and ability to learn lines. They also complete Component 1 – Understanding Drama by analysing a scene from a performance, either online or in the theatre, and writing a review.

Years 10 & 11

In Years 10 and 11, pupils deepen their knowledge from Year 9 and apply it to their GCSE components. They will participate in practitioner workshops to support their practical exams, and study Blood Brothers as their Component 1 set text for the written exam. Pupils will need to show resilience, creativity, and compromise within group work for devised performances, alongside independent study to complete a logbook of their personal involvement in devised rehearsals.

There are a variety of theatre trips throughout the year to broaden their experience of live theatre. In particular, Years 10 & 11 will need to see a live theatre performance for the Live Theatre Review in the written exam. And of course the Westbourne School Production - a highlight in the school calendar!
