Computing
At Westbourne we strive to deliver a comprehensive computing curriculum that accounts for our ever-changing world of technology while providing meaningful opportunities for pupils to develop and apply their computing skills.
We use the Raspberry Pi scheme of work which develops the following aspects:
- Coding and Programming by writing simple scripts.
- Computational Thinking which links to understanding how computers make decisions.
- Physical computing through an understanding of basic electronics.
- Digital literacy with a focus on how to use the internet safely.
- Creativity and Innovation through designing interactive projects, such as games and animations.
- Collaboration and Communication by sharing and improving ideas amongst peers.
- Appreciating Global Contributions from people throughout the world and how these benefit our lives today.
Safer Internet Day: This event supports pupils in their understanding of how to use the internet safely while also being aware of the necessary steps to take in order to protect themselves from individuals who may use the internet with the wrong intentions.
We also provide opportunities for parents to develop their digital literacy as we are aware how vital it is for parents to support their children in this constantly evolving digital world.
Coding Club - This offers pupils the opportunity to actively engage in a range of games while developing their understanding of how writing code affects outcomes and how to solve problems efficiently.
