PSHE

At Westbourne, we teach our pupils the information, skills and attributes necessary to make informed decisions to live a fulfilling and safe life in modern Britain.

At Westbourne, we follow the KAPOW curriculum for Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education in Junior School. KAPOW is a comprehensive and well-regarded subscription service that provides high-quality, tailored resources to meet the needs of pupils in these crucial areas of learning.

Pupils receive a weekly PSHE lesson that covers a broad range of topics to support their development and well-being. The curriculum addresses the following key areas:

  • Family and Relationships: Understanding the importance of healthy relationships with family, friends, and peers, and learning how to navigate different social dynamics.

  • Health and Well-being: Focusing on physical and mental well-being, including topics such as healthy eating, exercise, emotional regulation, and coping strategies.

  • Safety and the Changing Body: Exploring topics related to personal safety, body awareness, and understanding the changes that come with growing up.

  • Citizenship and Identity: Developing an understanding of individual identity, the role of citizenship, and the importance of respect and empathy towards others in a diverse society.

Through this structured and engaging approach, pupils are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices, build strong relationships, and take an active, responsible role in their own lives and communities.
