Head of Junior School
My educational philosophy centres on creating a happy, inclusive and engaging environment where every child is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally
I am delighted to have joined Westbourne School as the Head of Junior School, bringing with me a passion for nurturing young learners and over 13 years of experience in primary education. From my PGCE in Cambridge, my early career in MoD schools in Germany, through to a significant number of years in leadership at a successful international school in Amsterdam, I have always been drawn to schools which are based on a strong sense of community - which is why I’m looking forward to calling Westbourne home. My educational philosophy centres on creating a happy, inclusive and engaging environment where every child is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
As an educator, what has always mattered to me most has been enabling children to develop into ‘good people’. I feel a responsibility to create a future generation who are able to show empathy, kindness and respect whilst feeling empowered by their own self belief to have a lasting positive impact on the world around them.
As a leader, I champion high standards in both teaching and pastoral care, believing strongly in the importance of building strong relationships with pupils, parents, and staff. During my time in Amsterdam as Deputy Head, I led dynamic and large scale change as the school evolved into the globally recognised school it is today. Throughout this time of growth, it was vital to ensure we did not lose that sense of community and belonging. It is these relationships which allow our pupils to flourish and at Westbourne I strongly believe the pupils are surrounded by adults who truly care about their holistic development and about who they are as individuals.
Having returned to the UK after 10 years in the Netherlands, I am looking forward to new adventures both professionally and personally as I embrace being close to family, being part of a vibrant city and all the beauty the Peak District has to offer - particularly for my young daughter and my fluffy labradoodle, Hamilton.
