Governors

Dorrien Peters
Chair of Governors
I have been a solicitor for over 20 years and I am a commercial disputes partner at a leading national law firm. I have two boys at Westbourne School who joined in Year 6 and have stayed all the way through the Senior School.
I chose to take on the role of Governor at Westbourne as I wanted to support the school in delivering what it does best - supporting every pupil to be the best they possibly can be. My motivation for contributing to the school stems from a commitment to wanting each student to reach their full potential, and collaborating with our dedicated and professional staff to provide a well-rounded and enriching educational experience.
As the Chair of Governors, my key duties include:
- Leading Meetings: Chairing governing board meetings and ensuring they are efficient, focused, and productive.
- Strategic Leadership: Providing clear strategic direction for the school, in collaboration with the headteacher and governing board.
- Oversight & Accountability: Monitoring the school's performance and ensuring accountability by evaluating the effectiveness of policies and practices.
- Supporting the Headteacher: Acting as a critical friend to the headteacher, offering support, guidance, and constructive feedback.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with parents, staff, students, and the wider community to build strong relationships and trust.
- Compliance: Ensuring the school complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Performance Management: Overseeing the performance management of the headteacher and supporting the appraisal process.
I have helped in delivering the new build classrooms and sports hall and restructuring the Governing Body so it is fit for the future
Beyond being a place of academic excellence, where pupils thrive in their pursuit of knowledge, Westbourne is a home where sporting prowess is celebrated, creativity is nurtured, and each individual finds their unique place in the tapestry of our community. The term “Belonging” not only reflects our commitment to academic and extracurricular excellence but also emphasises the profound sense of belonging that permeates every aspect of Westbourne School. Here, the Westbourne family is not merely a phrase; it is a lived experience, fostering a nurturing environment where each person is valued, supported, and encouraged to explore their potential. In this inclusive and supportive atmosphere, Westbourne truly becomes a place ‘where you belong’.
