Whole School SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator)

I believe that it is our role as educators to adapt the learning environment for the pupils, not ask them to adapt

I joined the Westbourne school community in September 2022 and began my role as Senior School Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator a year later. In September 2024 I took over SENDCo responsibilities for the whole school. I now have the absolute pleasure of working with our inspiring pupils from Foundation Stage to Year 11.

I am passionate about supporting children in education and have been fortunate enough to have worked, in previous roles, in every key stage from Early years through to Key Stage 4. This has given me invaluable experience and knowledge of child development and learning processes across ages and stages.

For the largest part of my career I have chosen to work with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, but my career began in the Early Years, where I taught for 9 years. I then embarked on the development and running of an Integrated Resource Provision for Autistic pupils in a Sheffield mainstream primary school.

I firmly believe that in our role as educators we must make the learning environment accessible for every pupil, regardless of learning style or individual need. I also do not underestimate the challenges that this can present. I remain as passionate now after three decades in teaching as I ever was, in attempting to meet these challenges.

I have two fabulous daughters and three beautiful cats and I love to be at home with them, enjoying a nice cup of tea and reading a good book. I also like to walk and explore new places whenever I can.
