Film Studies

It is not surprising that many consider film to be a major art form of the last 100 years and that many feel it important to study a medium which has such significant impact on the way people think and feel.

GCSE - This is a brand new option from 2017.

The course is based on 2 exams both worth 35% and a piece of coursework worth 30%. Throughout the 2 years students will be looking at cinematography, composition, sound, narratives, aesthetics, media theories and the development of film technology.

Component 1: US Film 1 hour 30 minutes
This is based on a comparative study of 2 films: Invasion of the Body Snatchers [1956] and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial [1986] and US Independent Film: The Hurt Locker [2008].

Component 2: Section B is Global Film produced outside the US 1 hour 30 minutes

Component 3: Production Non-exam assessment
This component assesses the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of film to a production and its accompanying evaluative analysis. It could be either a genre-based film extract which could either be filmed, or take the form of a screenplay.
