A YEAR of academic success was celebrated at the University of Sheffield Octagon as we held our first prize giving since the pandemic.

Guests heard that the average GCSE grade amongst our Higher Attaining Pupils last year was an incredible 7.9.

And the event highlighted a year of achievement and success by all our pupils, not just the ones receiving prizes.

Guest speaker was former Westbourne pupil Damian Staples, the Manager of Communications at Rotherham Hospital, who received the British Empire Medal in the 2021 New Year Honours list for services to the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also present were two other former pupils, construction engineer Peter Sykes – who presented the prizes – and jet pilot and flying instructor Tom Chan.

The ceremony also gave pupils, parents and guests a chance to say an official thank you and goodbye to our headmaster John Hicks, who retires at the end of the summer term.

Your choice. Their future.
