Book Onto Our Autumn Series Of Open Events! Find Out About Scholarships!

This morning, Westbourne School came together for a deeply moving Remembrance Day service, led by Headteacher Mr. Edmanson. His words set a contemplative tone, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by those who served. Our Head Girl and Head Boy followed with a poignant reading In Flanders Fields, bringing a reflective stillness to the service.

Pupils from Years 3 to 6 performed this Remembrance Day song, their voices echoing throughout the school, reinforcing the collective spirit of remembrance. Miss Ogden then delivered the Paratrooper’s Prayer, a powerful reminder of the courage and resilience of those who serve.

In the days leading up to the service, Senior School pupils worked with the ladies’ group Well with Nature from Age UK to create beautiful, handmade wreaths, adding a personal touch to today’s remembrance. A special display of crocheted poppies, created through contributions from various members of the school community, including parents and grandparents, cascades from the headteacher’s office window and is especially notable. Alongside it, a crocheted wreath crafted by Mrs. Lee, a dedicated Senior School parent, has become a striking visual tribute visible throughout the school grounds.

The ceremony concluded with a touching moment as Year 11 and Reception children planted poppies to honour fallen Westbournians, symbolising respect and remembrance across generations.
