In 2016, the World Economic Forum suggested that 65% of six-year-olds entering primary school would ultimately end up working in completely new job types that did not exist at that point. It is with this in mind that Westbourne’s Middle School initiative was conceived, to ensure we do all we can to prepare our pupils for their journey through life. That is the responsibility our parents and carers – place upon us.

Our Middle school is designed to prepare our children to evolve and succeed in this world of emerging opportunities and challenges. It is designed to elevate education standards and set us apart in the world of independent schooling. We recognise the dynamic nature of the professional landscape they will enter and aim to equip them with the skills and mindset needed for success.

This September marks the launch of our new ‘Middle School’ programme for Year 7 and 8 at Westbourne. These golden years are a crucial period for our children, free from the pressures of SATs and GCSEs. We are committed to maximising these years to ensure growth and development, preparing our pupils for the opportunities ahead.

Our Middle School will introduce an innovative curriculum focused on teaching pupils how to learn. This involves understanding how to investigate, solve problems, collaborate, communicate, analyse, and assess—essential skills for success in the evolving professional world.

Beyond the classroom, Middle School pupils will experience the fun and adventure of a Westbourne education, including field trips, external speakers, and participation in school plays and concerts. We anticipate their involvement in guiding future Westbournians, starting their journey into the school.

Seamless Transition into Year 7

The Middle School will facilitate a smooth transition into Year 7, whether pupils are moving from our Junior School or transferring from another school. Vertical form tutor groups, spanning from Year 11 to Year 7, will ensure integration and full induction, providing additional opportunities for interaction with older peers.
