What a wonderful experience for those involved in the Intergenerational Mindfulness in Nature session last week! It was everything we hoped it would be and more, confirming the value of intergenerational connections. Totley “Well with Nature” group was set up by Caroline Cook during lockdown to reach out to elderly and isolated community members via Zoom. Eventually, the group was able to meet in person when restrictions lifted.

This week, the group joined eight of our Senior School pupils for a special session. The participants enjoyed a guided conversation about nature, a craft activity using summer flowers and grasses to create mandalas, and a mindfulness session where everyone reflected on the textures, smells, sights, and sounds of nature.

It was a heartwarming and enriching experience for all, highlighting the deep connections we can make through nature and mindfulness. At Westbourne School, we recognise the importance of intergenerational events in fostering community spirit and mutual learning. We look forward to more such sessions that bring together different generations to learn and grow from each other.

The ‘Well with Nature’ group meets at the Cross Scythes pub in Totley each Monday from 11 to 12:30. The sessions, which cost £7.50 each, include coffee and chat, discussions on nature topics, and mindfulness exercises. Interested individuals can book a spot by emailing

It is with special thanks to Rebecca Wilcox, our Director of Futures at Westbourne School who makes events like these come to life.
