Book Onto Our Autumn Series Of Open Events! Find Out About Scholarships!
Year 9 and 10 pupils recently participated in a unique and inspiring enrichment activity that combined creativity, teamwork, and a real-world connection to creative careers. The pupils were given feather templates and a colour palette to design and create individual feathers, each contributing to a stunning pair of wings that showcased their collective artistic talent.
The project not only encouraged self-expression but also fostered collaboration as pupils worked together to bring the wings to life. A highlight of the event was the creation of the banner “Flying High at Westbourne,” designed and printed by three of our pupils, which was displayed proudly above the wings.
“The enrichment programme is a fantastic opportunity to link classroom learning to creative careers,” said Mrs Wilcox, Director of Futures at Westbourne School. “Through this activity, pupils not only enhanced their artistic skills but also gained insights into the kinds of creative industries that require teamwork, design, and project management – essential skills for careers in art, design, and other creative fields.”
The benefits of enrichment activities extend far beyond the classroom, and this project was no exception. It demonstrated the power of combining creativity with practical learning, all while fostering a sense of achievement and collaboration among pupils.
Well done to all our Year 9 and 10 pupils for their outstanding work – you truly soared to new heights!
Special thanks to our wonderful art department, in particular Mrs Barnett and Mrs Hawdon who organised the event.
