Note from the editor: Westbourne’s GCSE pupils mentioned above have now received news of the school’s best ever results – congratulations Year 11!
As we prepare to enter a new academic year, I am looking forward greatly to meeting pupils and parents and to progressing the school ably supported by staff and Governors – all with the aim of providing our children with an outstanding education for life.
Westbourne is clearly a school that delivers a holistic education. This is one in which all children in its care move on to whatever it is their future holds, having been encouraged and enabled to explore and develop their potential fully.
My route to Westbourne has been underpinned by an understanding of the undeniable connection between a well-rounded, happy and confident person, and their drive to make the most of their education. I have moved through working with young offenders in the probation service, to joining Sedbergh School as a teacher and housemaster, then on to headship of the co-educational Elms School. Through this experience, there is a clear synergy between my values and beliefs in what underpins an education for life, and those of Westbourne, and it is this that has drawn me to the school.
Westbourne is clearly a school that values the diversity we see so clearly in our global community, with a dedicated, highly professional but invested teaching body. At the same time, we talk about the Westbourne Family and this is something that I’ve already seen and I am truly excited to be a part of it.
An outstanding education is, in my opinion, rooted in happiness, joy, friendship and confidence. The world has faced challenges which have changed it for the better, and the style of education provided by Westbourne School will prove to be the way in which parents wish to ensure their children are happy, healthy in mind and body, successful and enjoying a future full of friendship and memories of their school days.
