Beech Hall 20:35 Westbourne
It’s been an interesting week for Senior School Rugby at Westbourne.
On Wednesday the U13 development squad travel to Beech Hall. We realised quickly that our development squad was still too strong for Beech Hall so we mixed the teams a little. It was good to see some of the under-13 who haven’t played much this season get a taste for rugby action. Adam Green on the wing played with particular promise scoring a try from long range and he made a number of tackles. Amir Al Tamimi also played well at scrum-half. Joe Matthewman scored with a strong burst. In the end the score was 35:20 in our favour. The key being a number of players developed their skills for matches next week.
U15s Westbourne 30:15 Lincoln Minster
On Thursday our U15s were paired with Lincoln Minster. Lincoln were a decent team with a powerful set of cohesive forwards and an explosive centre. We began brightly in the first half with Alex Reed making a number of strong incisions into the Lincoln defence. Ellis Green was also making a number of good decisions and with the power of Laken Torres we began to build a lead. At half-time we led 25:5. In the second half Lincoln showed a high level of resilience and fought back admirably. The final score or was 30:15 to Westbourne. Arthur Gregory was outstanding throughout.
U12s Derby Grammar 10:25 Westbourne
On Friday afternoon the U12s visited Derby Grammar School and played in a strongly contested match. At half-time Derby Grammar School led by 2 tries to 1. Westbourne had dominated possession in the first half but conceded two breakaway scores. A strong half-time team talk resulted in a much improved performance after half-time. Joe Davey scored three second-half tries and Luca Allcroft added to the first half score from Slate Grant. Freddie Knowles was man of the match for his continued rucking efforts. But the match saw strong running from Sharif Khan and Michael Olbur-Daniels too. A great end to the week.
