Junior School is for Reception to Year 6. In Junior School, pupils thrive in an academic yet inclusive and nurturing environment. Our personalised approach is more than small class sizes: it is founded on an understanding that children learn in different ways.
We have invested significantly in our Junior School facilities with a new £3-million development to cater for our growing numbers. This features three new classrooms, and a state-of-the-art hall for sport and performing arts. We also have a large art studio, IT suite and several new playgrounds.
Westbourne teachers are passionate about bringing the best out of Junior School pupils. Through our teaching and extra curricular provision, children are individually supported, giving each one the opportunity to shine.
We have specialist teachers in maths, English, music, IT, art and modern languages. These experts help to develop pupils’ skills and abilities in preparation for the challenge of Senior School education.
At Westbourne School, we prioritise the holistic development of our pupils in the Junior School. Forest School and outdoor learning are intrinsic to their academic, social, and emotional growth. Through experiential learning, we provide opportunities for pupils to engage with the natural environment and utilise our beautiful Grade II listed Dell. Our curriculum is designed with a pedagogy that emphasises the significance of wellbeing, ensuring that we bring out the best in each child.
Junior School is a milestone on your child’s Westbourne Journey, and the relationship with our Senior School and its pupils is important. Junior pupils make good use of our Senior School facilities such as the drama studio, science labs and our purpose-built food technology area. Senior pupils mentor their younger counterparts in Forest School and in reading, and the whole school comes together for key events in the calendar such as Prize Giving and music events.
