It is my belief that in modern day society the ability to communicate and develop social and personal skills is as important as academic achievements. A mixed school with boys and girls growing and learning together is the natural way to do this. At Westbourne we nourish the whole person - an education for life.
We are well known in Sheffield for being a caring and friendly community. We cherish each individual, staff as well as pupils, and we work with our parents as a partnership to provide the best possible education.
Our classes have a maximum of 16 pupils to a member of staff. Therefore, we are more able to fulfil our aims as a school: to inspire children to reach their full potential. Each child receives lots of individual attention and their learning strengths and weaknesses are more identifiable. This is the key to each child's success.
Success, achievement and effort are rewarded on a daily basis. Children at Westbourne want to take responsibility for their own learning, they want to become independent, and they want the prestige of being a leader. The ethos of the school is epitomised by our staff and I am indeed fortunate and privileged to work with a team of such dedicated professionals.
The uniqueness of Westbourne is the atmosphere in the classroom, the way pupils interact with each other and the teachers. It is relaxed yet serious, good humoured and focused; it has a warmth and vitality based on mutual respect. The children smile, they are happy. They are free to express their natural creativity and curiosity.
You cannot feel this atmosphere without visiting us, so I invite you to come and see for yourself.
