From ballroom to radio studio to classroom…the fascinating story of a famous Sheffield building was explored when three BBC Radio Sheffield presenters visited Westbourne School.

To mark the 50th anniversary of BBC Radio Sheffield, well known radio hosts Rony Robinson, Gerry Kersey and Mea Webb visited Senior School's Ashdell Grove building which, until the Millennium was actually the home of the station.

The team toured what is now part of Westbourne’s senior school complex, joining headmaster John Hicks to explain how the building has changed since Radio Sheffield moved to its current home at Shoreham Street in Sheffield city centre.

The building actually dates back to the late 19th century when it was built Lord Mayor Thomas Moore and his original ballroom eventually became the two main BBC studios - a space that has now been converted into Westbourne’s Drama Studio.

They couldn't leave without having a quick word with our Pre-School mascot Westie!

The broadcast can be heard on BBC Radio Sheffield on Tuesday November 14 between 1pm and 3pm.
