In Pre-School we offer the children the opportunity to learn and develop their Literacy and Numeracy skills. Using the Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds DFE document children are taught phonics through whole class input and differentiated teacher and pupil led activities.
Children’s skills are nurtured and extended, for example some Pre-School children are able to sound out and blend words, which allows them to learn their high frequency words and start reading books independently to staff.
In Numeracy we follow the Abcus scheme. Both the Phonics and Numeracy schemes are taught throughout the school and prepare children for a smooth transition into school life.
At Pre-School we always strive to provide children with the opportunity to develop their confidence to speak in front of an audience and develop their self-belief. This is done through circle time, and in our specialist music, drama and PE sessions along with the Nativity performance that Pre-School put on for parents - taking the lead roles and learning their own lines.
“It is the high quality of the teaching and learning that takes place along with the offer of specialist subjects that appeals to our parents,” says Pre-School Leader Mrs Rees-Oxley.
“We tailor the phonics and numeracy lessons to meet each child’s abilities and we personalise each child’s learning journey - it is this differentiation that truly sets us apart.”
