U15s Sheffield City Champions!
After the high tension of the semi-final where we beat a very good Handsworth Grange team with one ball to spare, the U15’s cricket team were really focused and ready for the final against a Fir Vale side full of attacking flair.
Many of their boys play club cricket over in Ecclesfield but from the first diving stop in the field by an energised Sam Reed to the winning runs smashed by Tom Bennett we were dominant and played really smart cricket.
In the field we started well as Oliver Wroth and Andrew Mckinna bowled tight spells. Andrew grabbed a couple of early wickets and Oliver didn’t stray from off stump, frustrating the attacking Fir Vale batsman. Catches went up and we caught them all. Coleman with two, Torres, and Bennett and then a Reed run-out helped to restrict the Fir Vale effort. Jake Peet and Ellis Green both playing two years above their age group came on and Jake’s 3 for 11 would later gain him the man of the match award as we bowled out Fir Vale for 48.
Oliver Wroth and Alvaro Bayona, playing his last competitive game for the school opened the batting and put on 39 before they both lost their wickets in successive balls. However, they had done the job and it allowed Tom Bennett to smash successive 4’s to win the game and claim the trophy!
A very proud moment for the watching parents and teacher, who nearly shed a tear.
