The Carnegie Medal is a British literary award that annually recognises one outstanding new book for children or young adults.
Each year, 8 titles make the short list and each year, Westbourne Senior School shadows the judging panel, reading all 8 books and voting for their favourite. This year, a small number of able readers from Year 6 have also been invited to attend the group which meets every Monday at 1pm in the Senior School Library. During these sessions students have the opportunity to discuss the books they have read so far with other members of the group. In June we will be casting out votes to decide which of the 8 books we think deserves to win the prestigious medal – and finding out if our choice matches that of the official judging panel.
If you are interested in finding out more about the books we are reading, you can look on the official Carnegie website where you will also be able to read reviews posted by members of our group – just click on the Shadowing tab of the website, select Reading Groups from the drop down menu and enter our name, Westbourne Bookworms.
