Molly Meleady- Handley won the 14-16 year old International Poetry Competition, operated by ‘Never Such Innocence’ as part of the UK’s and Global Commemoration of World War 1. Molly’s piece was selected from 7, 128 submissions.
Lady Lucy French the CEO and Founder of ‘Never Such Innocence’ and Sir Tim Lawrence, Vice Admiral of the Navy, said her poem was exceptional .
Her poem was called ‘Me Brother Dan’ and is written using a Sheffield accent ( see attached for your information).
The poem is being used in conferences, remembrance events and other aligned activities in order to draw together the commemorations of WW1, which is now coming to an end for 1918. Molly has also been asked to recite her poem and speak at a range of these International events.
At the request of Veterans and Serving Personnel, British Legion and the Lord Mayor, Molly has been asked to script her poem into a play. Negotiations are now underway with the Crucible Theatre Sheffield on staging ‘Me Brother Dan’…so watch this space!
