Westbourne Junior School has launched ‘Helping Hands’, a new peer support scheme for J3 to J6 students. The scheme was the idea of two J6 girls, Mia and Meagan, who wanted to help and support others in the school.
The scheme allows children to take responsibility for caring for each other and nurtures self-confidence. It also ensures that all children know where to turn to if they have a problem.
Any child can write down a problem and put it in the Worry Box in Junior School Reception. Under teacher supervision, the J6 helpers will arrange meeting to discuss problems and offer solutions and support.
Junior School are also launching a ‘Two Stars and a Wish’ book where children can record two positive things and one worry. They will then discuss with a teacher the positive and negative aspects of the day. This means that worries can be dealt with before children return home.
