Girl power
Girl power is shaking up the school as we began the new school year with
one in three students from the gentle sex for the first time.
The rush of girls, along with rising boy numbers, has led to extra classes
at Reception and Year 7 in September and the purchase of the former Radio
Sheffield buildings adjacent to the present campus.
“Parents tell us that among many things they like about Westbourne,
small class sizes are the most important,” says headmaster John
Hicks. “So the only way we can meet the demand for girl and boy
places is to expand physically and create extra classes. We think it would
be quite wrong to allow class sizes to creep up, as happens at many schools.”
