Farewell to the graduating Pre-School class

The annual Pre-School graduation ceremony offers a chance to wave farewell to the pupils concluding their first years and moving onto the next level of education. This year’s event took place in the Junior School hall in July 2019.

As part of the proceedings, graduating pupils received a special certificate along with a handshake from Mr Hicks. Parents, staff and friends gathered to support the young learners. The event also offers the pupils the chance to be introduced to Junior School and see what the following term has in store for them come September.

Shortly after a brief introductory talk, the Pre-School pupils delighted audience members by tunefully singing their favourite songs. Highlights from the event including the official Pre-School graduation song, along with classics such as ‘The Dinosaur Song’, ‘Wheels on the Bus’ and ‘Frère Jacques’.

Each of these songs have an educational undertone offering skills including counting the days of the week, storytelling, and phonics too. What’s more, the cheery tunes also help the pupils to understand how to cultivate their sense of rhythm. One children’s favourite, ‘Incy Wincy Spider,’ taught the group to fine-tune their motor skills too.

As the ceremony drew to a close, guests had the opportunity to mingle with one another. Pupils bustled around talking to their friends and enjoying each other’s company. While everyone was socialising, a tempting afternoon tea was served.

The majority of the Pre-School pupils are due to return to Westbourne in September to join our Reception Class where they will embark on a new chapter in their education.

We have a very popular Reception Class with no fewer than 20 pupils due to start with us in September and several still to confirm!
