On Thursday 11th May we held our annual Sports Day at The English Institute of Sport. Throughout the day Pupils from Year 3-11 competed in several different track and field events. Years 5-11 were mainly competing in the morning with Years 3-4 joining them for the afternoon. The day began with all pupils being grouped in their house colours: red -Holmes, yellow – Johnson, green – Whitfield, and blue – Johnson. These then formed the teams for the rest of the day.
Sports Day allows our pupils to showcase some of the athletic skills learned in P.E and Games lessons such as Javelin, Long Jump, Sprinting and High Jump. We started off with a 60 meter sprint which was split in different year and single sex groups. The Year 3 & 4 sports day took part in the afternoon with races such as 60m, racquet and ball and bucket and ball. The day finished with the highly competitive school relays and final sprint races.
Friendship, co-operation and good sportsmanship joined together to create an amazing day. Many thanks to Miss Pursehouse for co-ordinating the day, to our teaching staff for their contribution to the day and a special thank you to our pupils for their enthusiasm and effort.
The day was made extra special by the fantastic turn out and enthusiastic support from the many parents who came to watch their children.
Many of the children commented that “this was the best Sports Day ever”!
