Year 10 pupil Molly Meleady-Hanley has overcome injury to take first place in the Under 15’s Race Walking component of the Youth Development League (YDL) National Finals 2017 at Birmingham Alexander Stadium.

Molly, who was racing for City of Sheffield and Dearne Athletics Club and Westbourne, has been receiving treatment for a recurring knee injury.

But the talented 14 year-old, who is also a member of the South Yorkshire Race Walking Team, the North of England Team and England Race Walking Team, still managed to stride towards an impressive victory.

Over recent years she has won the Under 11’s Race Walking Championships, the Under 13’s Race Walking Championships, the coveted Grand Prix, the Midlands League and the South Yorkshire Race Walking League.

A keen all-round Sports person, she also plays cricket for South Yorkshire Girls Under 16’s team in the South Yorkshire and Yorkshire leagues and is an enthusiastic hockey, netball and rounders player as well as participating in a range of cross country running events to over the years.
