Westbourne on way to Hockey Finals

South Yorkshire Schools'''' tournament win

YOUNG hockey players at Sheffield’s Westbourne School are top of the class after winning the South Yorkshire Schools’ tournament.

Both the U11 and U13 teams at Sheffield’s only independent co-educational school won their matches and now go on to play in the Northern finals on March 5.

“The children’s achievement reflects the excellent specialist teachers and the skills learnt by pupils who are taught hockey from Year 3, much earlier than other schools,” said Westbourne bursar Chris Heald.

The South Yorkshire matches were played at the Aurora Astro ground in Rotherham and attracted teams from both state and independent schools.

“We now look forward to taking our place in the Northern finals,” said Mr Heald.

“In our 125th anniversary year, this sort of excellent result is something else for us to celebrate.”
