New Deputy Head of Senior School

David Duffy joins Westbourne

New senior school appointment for Westbourne School

SHEFFIELD’S Westbourne Schoo has a new Deputy Head of its Senior School. David Duffy is originally from Bootle near Liverpool and was a student at University from 1989 to 1991, graduating with a joint hons in American History and Literature.

After working as a manager for K Shoes in outlets across the country, David decided to return to education and studied for a PGCE in History and English. He taught in a rural grammar school in Lincolnshire and became Head of History and Sociology before joining a large North Yorkshire comprehensive school in 1999.

Speaking of his new appointment at Westbourne, he said: “I want every child to continue to enjoy the close and supportive personal relationships that are a real strength of this school. I want every child whatever their ability to fully reach their potential and enjoy every aspect of school life. I have already been impressed with the open and articulate nature of the students and I would love to see them take on more responsibility for themselves and supporting others. I also believe we have sports stars of the future and I expect to see them rise to national attention".

David takes over from Rosemary Bornand, who recently completed 30 years service – she remains on the Westbourne staff as a part-time language teacher.
