125th Anniversary Cricket Match

Saturday 22nd April 2010 Chatsworth

Headmaster’s XI v Mr Elvidge XI

Headmasters team batted first

Scored 143

James Anderson and Josh Heald opened the bowling and the batsmen were soon in trouble as Josh took 3 wickets

Ian Davey took a nasty blow to his cheek from a Mr Elvidge delivery which bounced up and flew off the top of Mr Davey’s bat into his face.  Dr O’Connor was summoned with first aid kit and ice packs and Mr Davey sent off to hospital.

Mr Elvidge had clearly been practising in the nets thought Mr Hinchliffe, who was performing heroics behind the stumps, diving around like David James.

Bursar Mr Heald came on to bowl and the wides total increased dramatically.  Josh accused dad of letting the family down.  Mr Duffy was delighted to receive such friendly bowling and set his own personal record for length of stay at the crease.

Iskander Eaton bravely came out to face the hostile bowling and was promptly caught second (or was it third) ball, most unsporting like – but he gets his revenge later!

Mr Elvidge's team batted second

Scored 144 for 7 and won with 3 overs to spare

Mini collapse at the start had them in trouble at 44 for 4, with Mr Winter demonstrating a remarkably accurate bowling arm.

Mr Heald and Mr Hinchliffe then put on a master class in middle order batting, with Mr Hinchliffe undertaking the Geoffrey Boycott (his all time hero) role and Mr Heald hitting a quickfire 30 to put the score well ahead of the run rate.

Mr Hinchliffe continued to bat steadily, but then was skittled by Iskander Eaton, who had been trying to get his Dad out but he’d escaped with a quick single.

Mr Elvidge and Mr Eaton then batted steadily to see the team home to an emphatic win!!
