Who are the Friends of Westbourne?
The 'Friends of Westbourne' Society consists of about 25 mums and one brave dad, usually two or three from each year group, who volunteer to join the committee and become class reps. The class reps also are a valuable source of support and information for new parents to help them to really feel part of the school.
Westbourne has always been known as a very friendly school and Friends of Westbourne try to do their bit to ensure this continues.
Our main aim is to provide fun social events for both pupils and parents. These include mums' nights out to local restaurants, the annual black tie ball at the City Hall and whole family events where the children are entertained and the parents can get to know each other better.
Anyone can volunteer to join the committee and if you have recently joined the school it’s a great way to get to know people.
The workload is not onerous, we have one meeting a term and we usually organise one large scale and one smaller scale event per term. It’s a matter of hours of work per term, rather than days and we certainly try to ensure we have a good time whilst we are doing it!”
Friends of Westbourne are made up by a number of parents representing each year group. Our aim is to organise School social events for both parents and pupils, funds raised by FOW contribute to non-essential items for pupils across the school, for example we have recently provided funding for two ovens and two sewing machines for junior school, and are a present aiming to provide an Apple Mac computer for both the junior and senior pupils to use over in the Senior School building.
The committee is made up of, Chairperson Louise Heath, Vice Chair Wendy Baird and Treasurer Jill Hallsworth.
