The Olympic spirit arrives at Westbourne School
Rain couldn't stop play as our pupils got into the Olympic
spirit.
The special day of Olympic action began with an opening ceremony
at which Junior School pupils represented ten countries chosen to
participate in the games.
Our Headmaster John Hicks and Year 6 pupil Lucy Stern performed
the Olympic Oath as an Olympic torch, made especially for the
occasion, arrived.
Throughout the rest of the day there was a full range of Olympic
activities, including triple jump, long jump, relays and
football.
All of the events were lead by our 16 Year 10 Sport Leaders, who
did a fantastic job running and supporting all the activities.
The children also enjoyed a taste of Paralympic sports, with
sessions including Boccia, sitting shot putt and sitting
volleyball.
The day closed with the National Anthem and the lowering of the
Olympic Flag which was ceremoniously carried out of the Junior
School Hall by Year 6 pupil, Severin Gale.
