The most recent ISI inspection for 2010 emphasised that the
quality of teaching and learning at Westbourne is
outstanding and for the last three years, the
judgement for the Early Years Provision is again outstanding,
something Westbourne is rightly proud of.
That accolade is supported by the school's excellent GCSE
results - This year saw a 100 per cent pass rate in five grade A*
to Cs. A cohort of 30 pupils gained over 90 grade A* and As,
63% passed all their exams, 67% got at least 8 passes and 84
% of the grades obtained in the faster moving set were A* - B.
Outstanding OFSTED Report (Reception)
The quality and standard of nursery education at Westbourne
School is outstanding, according to the latest independent OFSTED
inspection.
The inspectors were so impressed that they did not make any
suggestions for further improvement. Their detailed conclusion
noted that:
"Children relish their time at the setting, making excellent
progress towards the early learning goals. An excellent
understanding of how children learn and knowledge of the Foundation
Stage ensures that all children benefit from challenging and
resourceful activities. Children are highly motivated as they
undertake all activities with enthusiasm. Meticulous observations
and recording systems ensure the effective monitoring of children's
progress and form the basis for future planning.
"Children undertake outstanding experiences as they enjoy
learning about the lives of others through topics, planned
activities and regular outings. They are extremely competent users
on technology. They enjoy exceptional opportunities to develop
excellent physical skills. Outstanding use of all outdoor space
allows children to explore in all weathers. Partnership with
parents and carers is outstanding. The leadership and management of
the educational provision are outstanding."
Westbourne School headmaster John Hicks was delighted with the
verdict: "It confirms our belief that a Westbourne education equips
boys and girls with an excellent opportunity to develop their full
potential. We are very proud of this independent report as it
reflects on the hard work of staff and students and the close
cooperation of parents."
